Boys Beach Volleyball

Boys Beach/Grass Volleyball | Summer 2025

Update (03/28): We now have two different programs for boys beach volleyball due to an increased level of interest. There is a club program for athletes who are currently competing indoors this club season, and an Elite program for especially talented players who will be selected at tryouts. Both groups will do a combo of sand training and grass training, and will alternate between both options.

Both Club and Elite groups will alternate between beach training and grass training. When Elite is doing grass training, Club will be doing sand training. All training will be 2v2 on a standard 8m x 8m beach volleyball court.

Schedule

The schedule is listed in the chart above. Exceptions to the schedule will be made for the following reasons:

Holidays. All programs are cancelled on Holidays.
Weather. We will cancel training in the following situations.
- Nearby lightning. In this scenario, teams will move to a safe space and parents will be contacted for pickup. Both beach locations have an undercover school facility right near the courts.
- Severe rain. We generally play rain or shine, however, there have been a couple cases where the rain is so heavy that we need to cancel. This rarely happens.
- Extreme heat. High temperatures are part of beach volleyball! When the temperatures get high enough that they could pose a safety risk, we will either switch to grass volleyball or cancel completely. This rarely happens.

VBC Tournaments

We highly recommend that our athletes attend VBC tournaments. These tournaments are not included in Velocity training fees, and attendance is not mandatory.

Here are the tournaments that Velocity coaches will be attending:

Lower Mainland Sand Series #1. June 14th-15th.
Okanagan Sand Series #1. June 22-23rd.
Lower Mainland Sand Series #2. Jul 5th-6th.
Van Open. July 11th + 13th
Island Sand Series #3. July 26th.
Provincials. Dates TBA
Nationals. August 22-24th.

Note: Teams can choose which tournaments they'd like to register for, and they will need to register online with VBC. If you have not selected a partner yet, we encourage you to register for tournaments now, and a partner can be selected later.

Athletes have the choice to register for tryouts if they want to be involved in the Elite Group. Registration for the Club program is open to all club players and does not require a tryout. Please carefully select the correct registration option when completing the registration form at the link above!
