message from the coach...
I am excited to join and bring my expertise to this team after the development and growth we saw last season! It is my goal to challenge, support, and encourage each individual player and the collective team throughout the season.
Whether you are returning or stepping onto the court with us for the first time, we are thrilled to see the intensity, talent, and passion you bring.
In practice, I value problem solving, hard work, intentionality, and supporting one another through every obstacle on and off the court. Expect high standards, puzzles, and an environment to make mistakes, learn, and expand your limits. You will be challenged mentally and physically, and learn to balance intentional work with free play.
Bring your passion, and learn to love the struggle. I can't wait to see us compete and grow together!
How will the Velocity 16u team be different from other 16u club teams? Our program for this age group is much more advanced and comprehensive than others. Introducing regular strength and conditioning, individual skill development tracking, film review and strategy coaching, and 3x team practices per week, will allow dedicated athletes to progress at a much faster rate.
For parents: club teams are a significant investment of both time and finances. If our only goal is to have fun, there are many cheaper and easier ways to do so. Yes, we want players to have fun, but I would say that we are aiming more for a rewarding experience. How do we define a rewarding experience? If a player matures as an athlete and person, gains a deeper understanding and appreciation of the game of volleyball, establishes quality friendships, increases their self esteem due to noticeable skill progression and the tournament results that come with it, and improves their ability to handle the ups and downs of competitive sport, then this will be a season that they are proud of and grateful for. This is what we at Velocity consider to be a rewarding experience.
No athletes (or coaches) are ever perfect, and we do not expect athletes to be perfect in any way when they join the team, but we must aim to always be improving. If you share this aim and vision, we hope to see you at tryouts!
