Training Overview

team practices
There will be 3 team practices per week.  The focus will be on skill development, team culture and connections, and game systems.

SCHEDULE:

Monday: 7:45-9:30pm
Thursday: 8-10pm
Saturday: 5-7pm or Friday: 7-9pm on tournament weekends

*locations TBA
positional reps
We will hold position specific reps practices approximately every second week.  This gives us a chance to allow each athlete to further develop at their specific position.

Positional training will take place on Wednesdays at Martha Currie Elementary with Coach Matthew.
film review
This is a key aspect of our training.  The team will have bi-weekly film review sessions to analyze our gameplay and determine area for improvement, and to help each athlete develop a deeper understanding of the game.

Bi-weekly film review is tentatively planned for Fridays before practice.  Each session will be 25-30 minutes.

Additional Season Details

team Gear
Our club team athletes will be wearing head-to-toe Mizuno gear.  This year's gear package includes the following:
  • Custom Jerseys
  • Custom Arm Sleeves
  • Short Sleeve Training Shirts (x2)
  • Long Sleeve Training Shirt
  • Hoodie
  • Joggers
  • Backpack
Season fees
The fees for the season will be approximately $2400.

This includes tournament registrations, practices, positional reps, film review, insurance, equipment, jerseys, clothing, coach registration and NCCP courses, operating costs, and many other costs.

The team fees do not include Volleyball BC registration for each player, and travel costs for the players and coaches.  The coach travel costs will be split amongst the players and billed later in the season.
Play time
Our goal is to be as transparent as possible about play time for each player!  Unlike 14u, there are no fairplay rules at 15u.  Playtime will be based on a variety of factors; here is how it will work for our 15u team.
  • If an athlete arrives early for 90% of practices and displays a baseline amount of focus and hustle, they will earn 1 set of gameplay per tournament.
  • If an athlete displays correct positioning and baseline calls (exact criteria will be outlined before the season), then they will earn an additional set of gameplay each tournament.
  • All additional play time will be at the discretion of the coaches.

message from the coach...

I’m incredibly excited for the opportunity to coach the Velocity 15U boys this season! This is an age where players begin to take big strides in skill development, competitive maturity, and personal growth, and I can’t wait to see how this team comes together. The season ahead will be filled with challenges, energy, and moments of real progress. My goal is for every athlete to finish the year more confident, more capable, and even more passionate about the game of volleyball than when they started.

At Velocity, we emphasize pursuing excellence both on and off the court. Volleyball provides the perfect environment to learn discipline, teamwork, and resilience, and I want our athletes to understand that how we train and carry ourselves in practice mirrors how we approach life outside of it. That means giving full effort, learning from mistakes, supporting teammates, and striving to grow every single day. Whether it’s improving a skill, responding to adversity, or showing leadership, we’ll focus on developing habits that build strong players and strong people.

What sets our program apart from many others is our commitment to deeper learning and deliberate development. We go beyond just running drills—we analyze film to identify patterns, teach advanced concepts early to build volleyball IQ, and challenge each other daily to raise our individual and collective standards. Our players learn not just what to do, but why it matters. We believe in creating a competitive, encouraging environment where athletes push one another to be their best, celebrate each other’s growth, and understand that excellence comes from consistent, focused effort.

For parents — club volleyball is a meaningful investment of both time and resources. If our only goal is simply to have fun, there are plenty of easier and more affordable options out there. While our athletes will have fun, our program also carries higher expectations. Players will be challenged, pushed outside their comfort zones, and supported as they work through difficult moments. Our ultimate goal is to make this a truly rewarding and growth-focused experience for every athlete.

We’re not chasing perfection—we’re chasing progress. If you’re ready to push your limits and grow with us, come join us at tryouts!

-Coach Ben
