positional reps
We will hold position specific reps practices approximately every second week.  This gives us a chance to allow each athlete to further develop at their specific position.

Positional training will take place on Wednesdays at Martha Currie with Coach Matthew.
film review
This is a key aspect of our training.  The team will have bi-weekly film review sessions to analyze our gameplay and determine area for improvement, and to help each athlete develop a deeper understanding of the game.

Bi-weekly film review is tentatively planned for Fridays before practice.  Each session will be 25-30 minutes.

message from the coach...

I can’t wait to get the season started with this team! It’s such a privilege to be a part of the development of talented young athletes as they grow their skills throughout the season. 14U is a very unique year in club volleyball, as players begin to build the decision-making and game IQ that will really define their ability to continue competing at a high level in future years. Successful 14U athletes learn to use their own critical thinking, self-evaluation, and game sense to take a more active role in their success, as individuals and as a team.

At this age and subsequent ages, talent is no longer sufficient to reach the highest levels in competition. The top 14U teams at provincials are all full of very talented players; the quality that will set our team apart is their ability to dedicate themselves to truly productive learning and practice. At Velocity, we expect the best from our athletes in this area. Players who make the team are talented individuals who further demonstrate exceptional ability in learning, application of feedback, and focus when training. Athletes who excel in this area will really benefit from the opportunities that this team will provide: continued intensive training of their foundational skills; the chance to work with coaches to achieve a greater understanding of game strategy; learning to master their mindset on-court and develop valuable leadership skills; building the ability to critically analyze their own performance through video footage and practice identifying coaching points for their own game.

Our program at Velocity is exceptionally suited to developing a high-caliber team of this nature, with bi-weekly film review, dedicated positional reps alongside three team practices per week, and individualized skill tracking. Smart, able athletes who are willing to put in the work can expect to be set up for success by their participation in our 14U team.

For parents - as a team, we will be hyper-focused on success for all our athletes. Success, however, is not merely winning. We push our athletes to grow both on and off the court. The skills required for competing at a high level later in their volleyball career - putting in max effort, accepting responsibility for and learning from mistakes, level-headedness, self-respect and respect for hard work - will show themselves in the life of athletes outside of sport. We believe that a fun, rewarding season with notable tournament success will follow as athletes master these skills.

If this vision for the season resonates with you, come on out to tryouts! We hope to see you there.

- Coach Andrew
